About Toto

Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also acclaimed studio players working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. In 1981 the third album by Toto Turn Back was a complete failure, but they rebound with their fourth album Isolation that features two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour established them as a brand around the world.

After a brief break, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. The album is different from the ballads of previous albums, and also features some heavy rock. This was their first platinum album in North America.

During the recording of the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and is put in financial difficulty. They decide to record a new album and change their name to a different producer. The lead singer Fergie Frederiksen leaves the band and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is more natural as a frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a needed boost.

The band released Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a huge tour around the world. After several weeks in Europe The band then travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes their recording and release their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. The album features a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe as a response to the band covering Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring lineup is completed by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.
